Sultan proved to be a gruelling shoot even for an actress of Anushka Sharma’s calibre. Anushka who was cast by Aditya Chopra in January was left with less than six weeks to prep up for her role as a female wrestler. When asked how she prepared for the role of a female wrestler, Anushka enlisted three challenges she had to overcome to look her part in the film.I was not sure initially whether I will be able to convince people that I can look like a wrestler. We have perceptions in our minds about wrestlers. We think they are really big. That is what I thought too. I had never seen too much of wrestling. So I thought I was working with a disadvantage because I thought I had to break a sort of perception in people’s minds regarding a wrestler. And this is the first time you are showing wrestling in a film. It’s is a sports drama. Secondly, I am playing a character of a female wrestler. So that obviously also is a novelty. So I felt like I will do it really well. I researched and found out that there are different weight categories. And I saw some international wrestlers who were tall and toned. So I realised this is the path that I will have to follow. When the teaser was out where my character was introduced , I felt relived because people reacted saying she looked good. And there were obviously no beauty shots of mine in the film. So good obviously meant I looked like a wrestler. So I was really relieved.Second thing is doing actual wrestling. I had to learn wrestling. Now since it’s a contact sport, you are in very close contact to somebody. So the first time I had to wrestle, I had to do it with a guy. And I was uncomfortable because in wrestling your head is in someone’s armpits, someone’s face is on your waist which is really uncomfortable. So I was like what is happening. How will I do it? So I was hesitant initially. I then saw videos of girls wrestling guys which is on Youtube and I was like if I have to do it then I will have to go for it fearlessly. To speak in Haryanvi accent was the third challenge. So in the script I used to write out before my dialogues how one should be pronouncing it phonetically. I would learn the lines like that as is being spoken with an accent.
